The private school “Udha e Shkronjave” called for the removal of the state honour and public holiday dedicated to Mother Teresa after the “Naim Frashëri” honour was excluded from the new system of state decorations, a change presented as the removal of his designation as “National Poet”. The claim brought Saint Teresa back to the centre of a disinformation discourse that set her against Naim Frashëri.
A building near Vlorë’s Ethnographic Museum, where the Albanian Jewish Museum is being built, was presented on social media and in the media as the historic building of the ‘Labëria’ Patriotic Club. Project documents and records of Vlorë Municipal Council show that they are two separate buildings, but the confusion spread until it prompted a civic protest against the project.
A video of an electrical substation engulfed in flames in Vlora was shared on social media with the false claim that it showed an “Airbnb” that had burnt down after the owner evicted several Israeli soldiers. The claim spread in several languages, accompanied by anti-Israel narratives and, in some cases, dehumanising language.
